Monday/Thursday Home-School Folder

Your child will bring home a Home/School folder every Monday and Thursday.  Please check both pockets of this folder for important school-wide information, classroom newsletters, homework and graded papers.  It is your child’s responsibility to bring this folder home and return it to school the next day.  Please use your child’s folder to send me notes, send lunch money envelopes to school, etc.  I remind the students to check their folder when they arrive in the classroom.

Homework

Students will have weekly homework in Reading, Spelling and Math. Homework will come home in Monday and Thursday folders. A typical 2nd grader should spend around 20 minutes completing homework. This includes independent reading, practicing spelling words and math homework. Students will also have occasional homework that relates to specific lessons in class. Homework is not intended as “busy work” but rather an extention of what is learned in class. Please return all homework by Friday.

Weekly Behavior Update

Every Thursday, a weekly behavior update will be sent home to keep you informed about your child’s behavior, responsibility, and work habits. Please initial that you have read it. It will updated each 9 week period.

Money

Any money that is sent to school needs to be placed in the 5x7 envelope that was sent home on the first day.  Please complete the information on the envelope.  The envelope will be returned to you with my initials to show that the money was received.  Please leave this envelope at home until it is necessary to send money.

Snacks

Each afternoon students may bring a snack during silent reading time after specials.  Please send snacks daily, ready to eat.  We ask that snacks be nutritional, and that no candy be sent.  Sometimes students get confused about what they brought for a snack vs lunch.  Please send only one snack item.

Lunch  11:05 - 11:25

Student lunches are $2.00, or you  may prepay $10 per week.  Also available are milk ($.35) or juice ($.40).  Parents/family are welcome to eat with their child.  Please remember to send a note or call the office in advance if you plan to order an adult cafeteria lunch.  The cost for an adult lunch is $2.50, and it can be paid when you go through the lunch line that day or you can send it to school with your child. We arrive at the lunchroom (AFTER recess) at about 11:05 each day. We return to our classroom around 11:25.

Class Directory

Parents often ask me for student phone numbers, addresses, etc for birthday parties, friends wanting to ride home together after school, or other "play" opportunities outside of the school day. Deer Creek publishes a district directory with students attending all Deer Creek Schools each Fall for a nominal fee. With your permission, I will publish a class list with parent names, addresses, phone numbers etc. for this use only. Please be respectful with this information and keep it confined to exchanging classroom information only. Thanks!

Birthdays

Parents are welcome to bring one simple “birthday treat” (donuts, cupcakes, cookies, etc.) to school to celebrate their child’s birthday or ½ birthday if in the summer.  Please arrange this with me a day or two in advance, so I may plan accordingly. You may send the treats with your child, bring them to school in the morning, or come to snack time.  We will not have “parties” with goodie bags, etc as this takes away from instructional time. Please refrain from asking teachers to hand out invitations unless ALL STUDENTS are invited. Thanks for helping us in this delicate matter! We don’t want any hurt feelings.
